Further, he has authored a number of books, including The Mystique of Conspiracy: Oswald, Castro, and the CIA, which outlines the conspiracy theories about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963. Following the arrest and subsequent murder of accused assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, a number of conspiracy theories arose questioning the mystery and motive behind the death of John F. Kennedy. In order to provide a unified response to these theories and to investigate the crime at a deeper level, President Lyndon B. Johnson formed the Warren Commission, led by Supreme Court Chief Justice Earl Warren. Along with Chief Justice Warren, the commission comprised two senators, two representatives, a former CIA director, and a former president of the World Bank. The commission conducted a yearlong investigation that included an extensive review of reports from the FBI, Secret Service, CIA and Department of State. Oswald’s personal history was examined, along with his political affiliations and military records. A number of interviews were also conducted. On September 24, 1964, the commission presented to President Johnson an 888-page document outlining its findings. The public also had access to the document, which concluded that Kennedy’s assassination was the crime of a lone gunman who did not conspire with any outside groups or people. The report also concluded that the Secret Service had not prepared sufficiently for the president’s visit to Dallas and had failed to protect him. Though extensive information was presented in the report, it did not attempt to pinpoint Oswald’s motive for shooting Kennedy.
